Newcombe's Maple Ridge.
We were both raised on farms in Dekalb Junction, NY. We live within 4 miles of where we grew up. Linda grew up on a dairy farm, that had an active maple sugar bush. Tapped by my step-father Lyle. Ed grew up on a farm with a sugar bush that wasn't tapped. Ed's mother use to tap just a few trees and boil syrup on her stove.
Ed being in the Air Force and Linda being self employed. How we came about the love of maple. Linda's brother Lyle who still works at the family farm, stopped by our home after tapping a few trees(as the home sugar bush has not been active in years.) to borrow the turkey fryer. Then boiled the sap down into syrup. We then started tapping ourselves. We started with buckets, then graduated to lines. We graduated to lines as our son was nearing graduation and would no longer be with us. So with our fulltime work we started the pipe line. We are now at about 2,800 taps and as my husband is approaching retirement we plan to expand our business.
Maple producers have to love the outdoors and hard work.
